Our Team

Kevin Callaghan

Program Officer

Kevin came to the Foundation for Newark’s Future as an Education Pioneers Fellow and has since transitioned into the full-time role of Program Officer. Kevin began his career as a Special Assistant at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a government agency that promotes economic development in emerging market countries. In 2009, he acted on his passion for giving all children access to an excellent education, joining Teach for America corps and spending two years teaching middle school Social Studies in Southwest Philadelphia.

Kevin was born and raised in New Jersey and received his undergraduate degree from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City with a double -major in Political Science and History. He earned a Masters of Science in Urban Education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011 with a focus on education reform and leadership, and holds a teaching certification for secondary Social Studies.

Cody Evans

Office Manager

Cody joined the Foundation for Newark’s Future as Office Manager, playing a vital role in the Foundation’s daily operations. Prior to joining FNF, Cody worked in Mayor Cory Booker’s Education Policy Office, the Newark Charter School Fund and City Hall’s Department of Neighborhood and Recreational Services.

Kimberly Baxter McLain

President and CEO

In the role of President and CEO, Kimberly is in charge of all facets of grant making, accounting, finance, human resources and operations. Kim joined FNF after serving as Vice President of Finance & Operations at the Newark Charter School Fund (NCSF), a grant-making education foundation that is committed to high-quality growth and sustainability in the charter sector of the city of Newark, NJ.

Before her work at NCSF, Kimberly was a Managing Director on the national staff of Teach For America, the national education nonprofit that deploys teachers to under-served communities. Prior to transitioning to the nonprofit sector and education reform movement, Kimberly worked in the corporate sector as an Investment Banker with Credit Suisse and a Certified Public Accountant in the audit practice of KPMG. Kimberly holds a Masters in Business Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of South Carolina, where she graduated with Honors from South Carolina Honors College.

Shannon Boehmer

Project Director, My Very Own Library

Shannon works for the Foundation for Newark’s Future as the Project Director of the My Very Own Library (MVOL) program. MVOL is a Newark, NJ based literacy initiative that fosters students’ love of reading by providing them the opportunity to choose FREE, NEW books to build their own home libraries. MVOL distributes over 120,000 free, new books to more than 12,000 Newark Public School students throughout each school year.

Previously, Shannon served as the Director of Communications & Corporate Engagement for New Jersey After 3 - a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding learning time for New Jersey’s youth. In that role, Shannon was responsible for communication efforts as well as the cultivation of volunteer engagement partnerships with foundations, corporations, associations, and parent groups throughout the state.

Shannon’s career in communications & project management started with an innovative interactive television technology company, WorldGate Communications, where she served as the Media Services Manager – responsible for supporting 26 Cable Operators in the strategic development and execution of interactive advertising and television programming technologies. Shannon also served as the company’s spokesperson at numerous interactive television trade-shows and investor conferences.

After a three-year commitment with WorldGate, Shannon took on a contracted Affiliate Relations role with Comcast Online Communications before taking a brief sabbatical to spend time with her two young children. Shannon returned to the workforce by starting her own small business, Shannon Boehmer Consulting – where she contracted with communication powerhouse, Garfield Group Public Relations, and New Jersey After 3. Her position with New Jersey After 3 blossomed into a permanent role - where she worked for almost seven years before taking her current position with the Foundation for Newark’s Future.
